About Nancy Schnur, Interior Designer in Hawaii
I have been designing in Hawaii since 1982, although not always in peoples’ homes. My first career was in store window displays, an art we only see in the big cities now. After the birth of my two children, I returned to school to expand my horizons and landed in the interior design program at Chaminade University. Upon graduation, I was hired by Wayne Parker, ASID to work for him at Partners in Design in Kailua.
I spent the following 8 years with Partners in Design, leading top residential and hospitality design projects. It was during this time I sat for and earned my NCIDQ certification and became a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist. Through the CAPS certification, I developed an interest in using my talents for those who need it most.
In 2011 I branched out on my own to focus on universal design and how I can apply it to homes as well as public spaces. I have been very fortunate to help a lot of people, and I plan to continue that service for anyone who lives in a multigeneration home, prefers to age in place, or has a relative with special needs.
I have recently gained an additional certification, Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC). This relatively new area of Interior Design focuses primarily on designing for Healthcare facilities, but the premise can be used anywhere. Just as medicine uses evidence to build knowledge for best practices so should design when it comes to healing environments. Many of these aspects are discussed in my blogs and in articles I post.
When you visit my gallery, you will see that although I am a true believer that design impacts lives, I also love those calls from potential clients who want help with traditional design work of selecting furniture, accessories, and specialized window coverings.
